Don't forget to come join the November party at The Romance Reviews. Only a few days left of games and free books!

Brenda Hiatt is collecting data on independent publishing. Help her out by sharing your numbers so that we can all benefit. It's all done anonymously. Click HERE for more information.

If you are thinking about self-publishing, but don't know where to start when it comes to marketing and promotion, or even formatting, don't worry. There are so many helpful authors willing to share what they have learned. My advice to you is to join Indie Romance Ink run by Cate Rowan and Carly Carson. There are over 400 members. Many IRI members are traditionally published and have already self-published a book or two. Some members are undecided. All are welcome to join and learn.

Twice a month, I plan to share my number of books sold in hopes that these numbers might help other writers make their own decisions about self-publishing. As you can see my sales have dropped significantly. I have already reached more readers than I had first envisioned. My plan is to keep writing the best books I can and reach more and more readers as the years go by. DEAD WEIGHT, the sequel to Abducted will be released at the end of December, hopefully before Christmas.

Every writer has their own personal and unique journey. My hope is that I can inspire others out there who are working hard at their craft to NEVER GIVE UP.

Let me know if you have ANY questions at all. And to all who celebrate Turkey Day, Happy Thanksgiving!

Theresa, I noticed quite a jump in sales in September for Abducted. Did you do anything different, or special that month?

Hi Karen,

I think it was a little bit of everything!

I had a Spotlight ad for Abducted in Eye on Romance during the month of September and my $.99 book went FREE for 5 days in August, which gave all of my books a boost. Abducted was also a sponsor on Pixel of Ink on August 9th and I had an ad for Abducted in The Romance Reviews in September.

I also did a few interviews and talked about Abducted. I think word of mouth helped, too, but I really don't know. The right book at just the right time? Once I hit the top 100 list in the All Kindle Store, it took off from there and stayed there for about three months.

Hi Theresa. Just thought I'd stop by. Hope you're well.

Looks like sales are holding up pretty nicely for you! And I know you're working hard to keep it going, too.

Years ago I worked promotion at Avon Books, where they put out a 'Romance Newsletter' promoting their romance line. (Which I recall as Harlequin, but I looked it up and there's no mention of Avon.) I was amazed at how important the romances were to their bottom line, and at the sheer number of books being sold.

But you have to really go some to stand out in that crowd, and clearly you're pulling out of the pack. Sure looks like you've made it to me. Any nibbles from the legacy publishing world?

Hey there, Mister Snitch! Glad you stopped by. I have been working hard and I plan to release the sequel to Abducted before Christmas. Everything right on schedule.

Cool that you worked in promotion with Avon. I do like promotion, but I like writing even more. I also love romance novels! Love really does make the world go round. :)

I've had nibbles from agents, but not one nibble from the legacy publishing world. Story of my life! ha.

Thank you, Theresa, for answering my question. I think the cover for ABDUCTED helped as well. It sure got my attention. It's spooky and that's what I look for in a cover.I like the name DEAD WEIGHT too. Hope it does as well.

Hi, Theresa. Hope you're well. (You must be just about ready for a new release, no?)

I was thinking about your 25,000 free downloads. Did you actually manage to locate 25,000 early-adopters & reviewers and email them your books, or did you set Amazon's pricing at 'zero' for the first 25,000 sales?

Or did you (as I suspect is more likely the case) so some combination of both?

Hi Jeff! My next book, the sequel to Abducted, will be released on December 15th.

About the 25,000 downloads. I had changed the price of AKICP on Smashwords and after one of the distributors picked it up for free, Amazon did the same. The 25,000 downloads happened within 3 to 5 days.
